Research in the film industry - Deadline Friday 2nd May

Explain the different types of data collection and how the film industry uses these to help produce and market their productions. This data collection can be split into 2 parts

Quantitative, eg programme ratings, readership circulation figures, hits on a website, box office figures, sales of CDs and DVDs;

Qualitative, eg film reviews, game reviews, fanzine websites, attitudes to media products, responses to news coverage, responses to advertising campaigns, discussion

Research sources.

Explain what the difference is between,

Primary research

Secondary research

What are the pros and cons of these two methods and how can they be used to research effective film productions?

Who are BARB and how can they help film industries?
